NZD: 6.00 / P & P: B A history of the gallery from its inception in the late1930's accompanies well over 200 full-page colour reproductions (and over 250 smaller b & w) of the nation's art treasures housed in the great museum. The reproductions are mostly of paintings and many of these are accompanied by art historical abstracts which offer insight for both the inexperienced and learned art enthusiast. The plates are organised chronologically and by the national schools of their times. The earliest artworks are circa the 13th century and concludes with works of the end of the 19th century. John Walker was the Chief Curator for 30 odd years and then a Director of the National Gallery of Art for 13 years. |
